Starting this month, Pharmachat and icMED are offering pharmacists access to notifications about drug interactions

For the first time in Romania, pharmacists have direct access to notifications regarding drug interactions through a new Apollo system, implemented in their management software from icMED. This innovation marks an important step in insuring patients’ safety and minimizing the risk of adverse reactions to drugs.

According to recent data, drug interactions pose one of the greatest risks to public health, potentially generating adverse reactions or significant complications for patients. Studies show that adults use multiple drugs simultaneously, considerably increasing the possibility of drug interactions, inherently increasing the risk of adverse reactions. This is not a region-specific issue, as the number of adults using multiple medications simultaneously is increasing worldwide.

Pharmacists play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of patients by providing them quick and accurate information about drug interactions. The access to updated databases and risk assessment instruments is essential for identifying and preventing potential adverse interactions between drugs. Improving the communication and collaboration between healthcare professionals is also crucial for ensuring safe and efficient treatment.

Therefore, pharmacists need quick and reliable access to information about drug interactions to be able to carry out their activity in a safe and efficient way, making sure that patients receive adequate treatment and are protected from the risks associated with taking multiple medications simultaneously.

The software developed by Apollo AI Technologies categorizes interaction risks in a simple way:

  • if the risk is insignificant, there is a low chance of adverse reactions;
  • if it is low, the risk is reduced, however additional precautions may be necessary;
  • if it is moderate, there is a significant risk and adjusting doses or careful monitoring is required;
  • if it is high, there is a major risk of serious complications.

This essential functionality developed by Apollo AI Technologies, a start-up with 100% Romanian capital, is integrated in the icMED management software, developed by Syonic, a company with over 17 years of experience in creating software solutions for healthcare.

“We are proud to bring this innovation to the Romanian pharmaceutical field. Pharmacists direct access to up-to-date information regarding drug interactions will greatly contribute to the overall safety and health of all patients.” – Mihaela Onofrei, CEO of Apollo AI Technologies.

“The verification function of potential drug interactions is already available in the updated icMed software for pharmacies, substantiating our commitment to innovation and access to high-quality healthcare services for all Romanian communities. We are happy to be the first pharmaceutical management software to offer this integration, bringing improved safety to patients.” – Andi Kuglis, Managing Partner of Syonic.

It is important to mention that this functionality does not mean that medication cannot be released, but that the pharmacist must offer information and, in some cases, suggest adjustments or careful patient monitoring to minimize the risk of adverse reactions or serious complications.

This innovation marks a significant step towards ensuring safer and more efficient medical care in Romania and shows the continuous commitment of the pharmaceutical industry and technological industry to the benefit of public health.

Apollo AI Technologies successfully launched multiple specialized medical chatbots: Diabeta, Pharmachat, Chat4Doc, and HChat
